The CDA approved a loan guarantee on $250,000 in financing being provided to Mattingly Hitting Products, Inc.

Mattingly Hitting Products, Inc. is a young company founded in 2006 by Don Mattingly, Jim Wells and George Shaw. Based out of Shelton, the company is a distributor of baseball and softball bats, apparel, uniforms, catching equipment, gloves and training aids. The company has seen steady growth, and projects that trend to continue thanks to repeat sales to companies such as Modell’s, Dick’s, Sports Authority, and Olympia Sports.

Don Mattingly (nicknamed "Donnie Baseball" and "The Hit Man") was a star left-handed first baseman for the New York Yankees of the American League from 1982-1995. Mattingly's Major League career as a player totaled more than 11 years. After his playing career, Mattingly served as hitting coach for the New York Yankees from 2004 to 2006, then as their bench coach in 2007, before joining the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2008 as their Hitting Coach.

Mattingly, whose passion to teach kids and players alike the best hitting techniques, conceived and designed the V-Grip™. The V-Grip instantly corrects what Mattingly found to be the most common problem found in hitters -- the position of the hands around the handle. The patented V-Shaped handle naturally aligns the knocking knuckles, effectively positioning the bat away from the palm and into the fingertips. This helps batters hit the ball on the sweet spot and generate additional bat head speed.

Due to the company’s continued outreach efforts, Mattingly’s V-Grip is now the official bat of the Baseball Factory, which is regarded as the nation’s leader in player instruction, tournament competition, and college planning and placement. Baseball Factory's vision is to guide both players and parents through the college recruiting process and to professionally train players in order to find a school that is the right fit...both academically and athletically.
