From 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
March 17, 2010
    Connecticut Quality Council, East Hartford

Event Details:
Presented by Connecticut Quality Council
A Unit of the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology

Supply chain management (SCM) encompasses a set of activities that transforms raw materials into intermediate goods and final products and delivers those final products to the customer. These activities range from the initial raw materials to the ultimate consumption of the finished product by the customer, and they often require operating or monitoring a worldwide network of manufacturing, supplier and distribution facilities. Traditionally, the management of flows between marketing and production was called “logistics.” So in many ways, logistics is related to SCM, where the definition of “flow” has taken on much broader meaning.

This one-day workshop will focus on the planning, analysis, decision making and measurement methods used to manage supply networks in order to improve customer satisfaction. A comparison of different supply chain strategies will be presented, with an emphasis on the application of business strategies that minimize waste.

Key Topics:

  • Organizing for supply chain management
  • Performance measurements
  • Tools and techniques
  • Insourcing and outsourcing
  • Supplier evaluation, selection, development
  • Transportation and logistics
  • Physical flows in the chain
  • The bullwhip phenomenon, its causes, and remedial measures
  • Case discussion and comparison of organizations
  • Supply chain simulation game
